Regional Container Lines (RCL), a prominent Thai shipping company, has announced the addition of two new 7,000 TEU capacity vessels to its fleet. This significant investment marks a milestone in RCL’s mission to expand its service offerings and strengthen its presence across the Asia-Pacific region.
The aptly named Hemma Bhum and Itthi Bhum were unveiled at a grand ceremony held at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Yard in China, where they were constructed. This addition comes just a week after RCL christened two other 7,000 TEU vessels, the Ussama Bhum and Varanya Bhum, in Japan.
The new vessels are expected to significantly boost RCL’s operational capacity, allowing them to enhance service efficiency and reliability for their customers and partners. Notably, RCL has signed additional contracts for two more 7,000 TEU ships with the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard. These upcoming vessels will be equipped with cutting-edge Energy Saving Devices (ESD) and will be prepared for future clean propulsion standards with the Dual Fuel Ready notation. The staggered delivery schedule, set between 2026 and 2028, reflects RCL’s long-term strategic plan for fleet enhancement. This expansion positions RCL to capitalize on growth opportunities within the Asia-Pacific region and solidify its position as a key player in the container shipping industry.
