India plans to mandate export contract registration for non-basmati rice via APEDA, similar to current basmati protocols. A registration fee of ₹10–20/tonne is being proposed, and basmati export fees may rise to ₹50/tonne.
Funds from this initiative will support new testing facilities and seed centers. New DNA testing labs are being considered in Karnal and Amritsar. A second seed processing center is planned in Pilibhit, UP.
Exporters will also gain RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) benefits. These regulatory changes aim to enhance quality control and compliance, especially for exports to the EU and UK.
