Karnataka Seeks Central Relief as US Tariffs Hit Exporters
Karnataka’s Minister for Transport and Muzrai, Ramalinga Reddy, has urged the Indian government to provide relief to exporters affected by the US’s 50% tariffs on Indian imports. He has requested the central government to announce incentive and relief measures to soften the impact on key sectors such as textiles, engineering goods, leather, footwear, and gems and jewelry.
Speaking at an event, Reddy highlighted that exports are not only about foreign exchange earnings but also about creating jobs and improving India’s global competitiveness. The President of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), M. Opuluvakrishna, stated that exporters should focus on diversifying their export markets and improving their products to meet global standards. Karnataka’s exports in FY 2024-25 reached $159 billion, driven by sectors like IT, aerospace, biotechnology, coffee, and textiles.
