According to data presented to the Rajya Sabha, ports in Gujarat were responsible for 65% of the ₹11,300 crore worth of illicit drugs seized at Indian ports over the last five years. During this period, close to 5,000 kg of drugs were seized across five ports and three container freight stations. A significant portion of these seizures, valued at ₹7,383 crore, were made in Gujarat.
The seizures occurred at private ports like Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone at Mundra (₹6,386 crore) and the Port of Pipavav (₹180 crore), as well as Container Freight Stations in Mundra and Gandhidham. Other major ports with significant seizures included Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai (₹2,284 crore) and VO Chidambaranar Port at Thoothukudi (₹1,515 crore). The seized consignments primarily consisted of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and tramadol tablets and injections. The Union government reported that at least 17 people have been arrested in connection with these seizures.
