EAM Jaishankar roots for increased Indian exports to Russia

Published

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral trade between India and Russia. Jaishankar emphasized the need for a more balanced and sustainable trade relationship by increasing Indian exports to Russia. He stated that addressing non-tariff barriers and regulatory impediments is crucial, and enhancing Indian exports in sectors like agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and textiles will help correct the current trade imbalance.

The two ministers discussed a wide range of topics, including politics, trade, economic investment, defense, and science and technology. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the meeting would focus on creating transport, logistics, banking, and financial links that would be “immune to any adverse pressures from unfriendly countries” and would also increase the use of national currencies in mutual settlements. The visit is intended to strengthen the “Special and Privileged Strategic partnership” between the two nations.
