Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.) has partnered with Schneider Electric to launch the LS&Co. Energy Accelerator Program (LEAP), an initiative aimed at increasing the use of renewable electricity within its supply chain, with an initial focus on India. This strategic move is a key component of LS&Co.’s ambitious sustainability goals, which include a 42% reduction in supply chain emissions by 2030 and a long-term commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The program leverages Schneider Electric’s expertise to provide scalable and practical solutions for suppliers to transition to clean energy.
Through the LEAP program, LS&Co.’s suppliers in India will gain access to a variety of resources and financial models designed to facilitate the shift to renewables. These benefits include competitive pricing for renewable power, favorable investment terms, and customized financial analysis. The program also offers in-depth training modules and expert advisory services from Schneider Electric, which will help suppliers navigate the complexities of India’s evolving clean energy market. Suppliers will have the flexibility to choose from various renewable energy options, such as on-site solar installations, acquiring renewable energy certificates, or participating in multi-buyer power purchase agreements (PPAs).
The initiative has garnered support from both corporate and governmental sectors, highlighting its potential to drive a broader industry shift. The success of similar programs, such as Walmart’s Gigaton PPA, which was also managed by Schneider Electric, provides a proven model for LEAP. By empowering its suppliers to adopt sustainable practices, LS&Co. is not only working towards its own environmental targets but also fostering a more resilient and sustainable supply chain ecosystem in India and potentially in other regions in the future.
