Central Government Monitoring Export Trends Amid US Tariffs

Published

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, informed the Lok Sabha that the government is closely monitoring export data and implementing a multi-pronged strategy to promote Indian products globally. This response addressed concerns from Andhra Pradesh MPs regarding the impact of 50% punitive U.S. tariffs on sectors such as industrial goods, farming, and seafood. The minister reported that overall exports grew to $292.07 billion during the April-November 2025 period, up from $284.60 billion in 2024.

To mitigate the impact of these tariffs, the government is engaging with the U.S. for a mutually beneficial trade agreement and pursuing new free trade agreements. Other measures include trade relief from the RBI, credit guarantee schemes for exporters, and GST 2.0 reforms intended to boost domestic demand. Additionally, seafood exports showed resilience, rising to $5.75 billion in 2025 from $4.95 billion the previous year.

Andhra Pradesh was specifically highlighted for its growth, with state exports rising to $20,782.81 million in 2024-25. Minister Anupriya Patil lauded the state as a medical device manufacturing hub, particularly the Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam. Approved projects at the zone include the manufacturing of CT scanners, MRI components, ventilators, and cardiac devices.
