Ramayapatnam Port Nears Phase-I Commissioning as Works Cross 75%

Published

The Ramayapatnam Port project in Andhra Pradesh reached a major milestone in November 2025, with more than three-fourths of its construction work now complete. This progress sets the stage for the commissioning of Phase I in the first half of 2026. Developed under the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB), the deep-sea port is positioned to be a cost-effective alternative to established hubs in Visakhapatnam and Chennai, specifically targeting industrial growth in the Prakasam and Nellore districts.

The first phase of the ₹4,922-crore greenfield project includes four multi-purpose berths and two breakwaters, both of which are already finished. Supporting infrastructure is also nearing completion, with 90% of the four-lane NH-16 link road done, while the remaining land for the rail corridor is expected to be acquired within three months. Once fully operational, the port is designed to handle 138 million tonnes of cargo annually, with 19 additional berths planned for Phase II.

The port’s emergence is already attracting significant private investment, including a ₹1,300 crore commitment from a leading warehousing firm. Local industries, particularly granite, aquaculture, tobacco, and subabul farming, are expected to be the primary beneficiaries of this new logistics hub. Additionally, the region is seeing a shift in industrial concentration as heavy mechanical engineering firms and small-scale units gravitate toward this port-driven growth corridor.
