Historic Deal: CMA CGM Partners with Cochin Shipyard

The Indian shipbuilding industry has reached a significant milestone as the French shipping giant, CMA CGM, signed a landmark $360 million agreement with Cochin Shipyard. Under this strategic deal, six high-tech, LNG-powered container vessels will be constructed, all of which are set to be registered under the ‘Indian Flag.’ This partnership is expected to provide a massive boost to domestic shipbuilding capabilities while simultaneously establishing an AI-driven R&D hub in India. Furthermore, the project is poised to create substantial employment opportunities, opening doors for 1,500 new Indian seafarers. This collaboration underscores India’s growing importance in the global maritime supply chain and its commitment to sustainable shipping solutions.
