Maritime Infrastructure – VOC Port to Become a Major Transshipment Hub

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has launched a massive ₹1,500 crore infrastructure upgrade at the VO Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Tuticorin. The projects include a ₹160 crore maritime heritage museum and the implementation of a “Digital Twin” project for AI-driven port operations and maintenance. Additionally, a foundation stone was laid for ₹1,340 crore worth of green energy projects, including wind farms, green hydrogen facilities, and solar plants. These strategic investments are designed to transform the port into a critical maritime gateway for Tamil Nadu, enhancing both regional and international sea-route connectivity.
