Due to the export standstill, the domestic market for premium rice varieties is witnessing a sharp decline in prices. The price of Pusa basmati has fallen by ₹300 to ₹500 per quintal, leading to a significant reduction in the arrival of raw materials at mandis. Farmers and traders are hesitant to release stocks at these lower rates, which has further weakened the supply chain. This price volatility is a direct result of the sudden disappearance of the Gulf demand, which typically keeps the market rates stable for high-quality aromatic rice.
