Despite substantial cost reductions, the report highlights that India’s logistics supply chain has not yet achieved optimal efficiency due to a continued overdependence on road transport for freight movement and persistent bottlenecks in first- and last-mile connectivity. To correct this modal imbalance and accelerate the shift of cargo toward rail and other highly efficient transport modes, the swift development of integrated Multimodal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) is deemed absolutely central to the national strategy. Drawing from successful global experiences in nations like Germany, the Netherlands, and Singapore, the report underscores that fully operational MMLPs are critical to solving existing delays, enhancing structural supply chain integration, and maximizing operational efficiency across the country.
