A major technical glitch in the Indian Customs’ electronic data interchange (EDI) system has caused a severe nationwide outage, completely halting the clearance of time-sensitive courier shipments and express cargo at major international airports. This system breakdown has left thousands of import and export packages stranded at cargo terminals, heavily disrupting the operations of express logistics providers, e-commerce companies, and supply chain networks that rely on rapid cross-border movement. Industry bodies and custom brokers have raised concerns over the compounding backlogs, as the technical failure prevents the digital filing and processing of shipping bills and bills of entry. While the authorities are actively working on a technical fix to restore the server, logistics operators are urgently demanding manual clearance workarounds to clear the mounting cargo volumes and minimize financial losses caused by these unexpected transit delays.
