According to official data released by China’s Ministry of Transport (MOT), the nation’s transportation and logistics sector recorded stable and robust growth during the first four months of the year, driven by steady increases in freight volume and port throughput. China’s total commercial freight volume reached an impressive 18.17 billion tons from January to April, marking a 3.6 percent increase year-on-year, while major ports successfully handled 5.93 billion tons of total cargo, representing a 3.1 percent expansion over the previous year. This positive upward momentum was significantly propelled by international trade demands, as foreign trade cargo throughput grew by 5.5 percent and total container throughput surged by 7.2 percent to hit a massive 120 million standard containers (TEUs). This strong performance across major maritime hubs was further bolstered by the strategic launch of several new international shipping routes in April, which not only expanded network connectivity and diversified port operations but also laid a solid foundation for sustaining cargo throughput growth in the subsequent quarters of the fiscal year.
