During a recent five-day summit held under India’s presidency, member nations of the expanded BRICS bloc officially adopted the ‘Indore Declaration’ to secure global food supply chains and protect small-scale farmers. The comprehensive declaration establishes a new ‘Global Forum on Farmers’ Rights in Seed Systems’ to protect indigenous seed biodiversity, alongside a Digital Agriculture Network coordinated by IIT Delhi to integrate AI and IoT tools into farming. To counter worsening climate risks, the nations have formed a specialized network for regenerative agriculture and are actively working to operationalize a unified ‘BRICS Grain Exchange’ to stabilize trade across member countries that together control 42% of global foodgrain production.
