India Imposes Stringent Anti-Dumping Duties on Key Chemical Imports

Published

Acting on the formal recommendations of the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), the Union Finance Ministry has levied a five-year anti-dumping duty on “Sulphenamides Accelerators”. This critical chemical, widely utilized in the rubber and tyre manufacturing industries, was being exported to India from China, the European Union, and the United States at prices significantly below its normal market value, causing material injury to domestic manufacturers. The newly instituted duties range from $75 per tonne to $1,748 per tonne. In parallel defensive trade measures, the Department of Revenue has extended anti-dumping duties on Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, and Indonesian aluminium foil imports until December 15, 2026. Furthermore, a specific anti-dumping duty of $200.66 per tonne has been imposed for five years on Chinese Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) resin possessing an intrinsic viscosity of 0.72 decilitres per gram or higher.
