The Odisha government has launched an expansive maritime infrastructure development roadmap involving an estimated investment of ₹50,000 crore to bolster its eastern coastline and integrate with India’s Indo-Pacific strategy. Unveiled by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during the 14th Multi-Agency Maritime Security Group meeting, the plan highlights the construction of a massive greenfield deepsea port at Bahuda in the Ganjam district, drawing over ₹21,500 crore in funding via the Sagarmala programme. This alternative maritime gateway will boast a capacity of nearly 150 million tonnes per annum, serving mineral-rich regions and catalyzing local logistics parks. Concurrently, the state is partnering with the Paradip Port Authority to build a ₹24,700 crore shipbuilding and ship repair industrial cluster in Kendrapara, designed to handle 1.2 million gross tonnage and leverage modern AI and unmanned monitoring networks for coastal security.
