Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced a comprehensive package of projects worth ₹2,000 crore to significantly upgrade Goa’s maritime sector. Executed in coordination with the Goa state government and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the initiative features the introduction of a state-of-the-art public water metro system designed to enhance local transit convenience. The announcement coincided with the inauguration of Panaji’s new Captain of Ports Terminal Building. Reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of balancing development with cultural legacy (“Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi”), the architectural layout of the new hub draws direct structural inspiration from ships to celebrate Goa’s historical seafaring legacy.
