The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways launched several transformational infrastructure developments across India’s premier maritime gateways. Port Secretary Vijay Kumar inaugurated projects worth ₹105 crore at the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), including concrete road networks and truck terminals, while directing the port to study cargo movement potential via inland waterways like the Netravathi and Phalguni rivers. Concurrently, Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla achieved a new national record by handling 7.78 lakh tonnes of cargo in a single 24-hour window. To support this rapid expansion, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata is shifting to a public-private partnership (PPP) model to raise its annual cargo handling capacity to 74 million tonnes, while the Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) organized a three-day Rozgar Mela to recruit skilled maritime personnel.
