India Strengthens Global Trade While Expanding Energy and Export Partnerships

Published

India recorded its highest-ever exports of USD 863.1 billion in FY2025-26, supported by strong merchandise and services exports and the growing impact of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), particularly with the UAE. Alongside expanding global market access, the government is closely monitoring the utilisation of preferential trade benefits to strengthen export competitiveness. At the same time, India is planning to source up to 25% of its LPG imports from the United States by 2027, reducing dependence on the Middle East and improving long-term energy security after recent supply disruptions. Meanwhile, during India’s WTO Trade Policy Review, countries including the United States and Japan urged India to address agricultural export restrictions and improve transparency, highlighting the increasing importance of balancing domestic policy objectives with global trade commitments.
