India Aims for $2 Trillion Export Target & Demands Supply Chain Resilience

Published

Speaking at the CII Manufacturing Conclave, Commerce Ministry Additional Secretary Yashvir Singh stated that India must fundamentally transform its manufacturing and trade ecosystem to achieve its ambitious $2 trillion export target by FY31. While India’s total exports reached an all-time high of $863 billion in FY26, achieving the FY31 goal requires moving beyond incremental improvements. Rather than settling for a standard “China-plus-one” model, India is positioning itself as a primary, trusted manufacturing partner to mitigate risks associated with global supply chain concentrations, particularly in critical minerals and key materials. The government outlined five strategic obligations for industry: maximizing the utilization of signed Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), shifting toward high-value capital goods, securing critical supply chains, actively setting global technical standards, and aggressively diversifying into new export markets.
