The widening of the Kanchipuram-Vandavasi Road into a four-lane stretch is progressing under the Chief Minister’s Road Development Plan to support industrial hubs in Cheyyar and Vembakkam. The project links directly to the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road to streamline freight transport to Chennai and Ennore ports. The initial phase spans 9 km from Mangal to Manampathi at a cost of ₹78 crore, incorporating storm water drains, culverts, and a high-level flyover near Sevilimedu planned for completion by 2028. Land acquisition of 307 acres across 34 villages is underway for the second phase extending to Tiruvannamalai. Concurrently, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has confirmed plans for a multi-modal logistics hub (inland container depot) in Tiruchi, following correspondence with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation will execute the feasibility study for the project. Positioned centrally relative to Chennai, Kamarajar, Kattupalli, VOC-Thoothukudi, Kochi, and Vizhinjam ports, the Tiruchi depot will feature cold chains, bonded warehousing, cargo consolidation, and integrated customs clearance facilities.
