BRICS Deepens Diplomatic Ties, Criticizes Western Protectionism, and Drives UAE-India Green Investments

The 18th BRICS Summit hosted under India’s chairship in New Delhi brought vital economic and diplomatic milestones into focus, headlined by a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled. Strengthening their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, both leaders celebrated a major announcement by UAE’s International Holding Company to invest in an $11.5 billion integrated greenfield aluminium project in Odisha, positioning the state as a global manufacturing hub. Alongside these investment talks, the 11-nation BRICS bloc adopted the New Delhi Declaration, delivering a scathing critique against unilateral tariffs, non-tariff barriers, and Western climate-linked trade policies like Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAMs). The declaration emphasized that these discriminatory mechanisms distort trade, disrupt global supply chains, and unfairly burden developing nations undergoing industrialization. Calling for urgent World Trade Organization (WTO) reforms, the summit linked anti-protectionism with equitable market access to protect emerging economies from economic disparities caused by restrictive foreign policies.
