Andhra Pradesh is aggressively positioning itself as a major maritime and shipbuilding cluster along its vast 974 km coastline to support India’s vision of becoming a top global shipbuilding nation by 2047. A landmark step in this direction is the MoU signed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) to invest ₹15,000 crore in a ₹29,253-crore greenfield Shipbuilding-cum-Port Cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district. Executed through the National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park-AP (NSHIP-AP), MDL plans to establish a capacity of 1.2 million gross tonnage per annum to construct commercial vessels, tankers, and LNG carriers. Additionally, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) is in discussions to invest ₹14,000 crore across 400 acres, marking its first major expansion outside Goa. Beyond shipbuilding, optimizing inland container supply chains has emerged as a crucial lever for trade efficiency.
