State-owned Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) has placed an order worth ₹200m–₹230m (2.2m–2.5m) with TuTr Hyperloop, an IIT Madras-incubated startup, to conduct a groundbreaking freight pilot project in Mumbai aimed at moving fully loaded shipping containers via a hyperloop system. Functioning as an R&D initiative, CWC Managing Director Santosh Sinha noted that the primary objective is to evaluate whether low-pressure tube and magnetic propulsion technology can reliably handle real-world freight conditions, with potential future plans to connect a key Mumbai port directly to a CWC logistics facility. Targeted for implementation within approximately one year, this initiative positions India as a major global hub for practical hyperloop development while interest in the high-speed cargo technology has cooled in other parts of the world.
