Under the framework of the Indian Ports Act 2025, the Government of India has officially designated four key maritime gateways, Deendayal (Kandla), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Paradip, and Mundra, as the nation’s first official “Mega Ports”. This milestone designation aims to upgrade India’s maritime trade infrastructure by scaling up handling capacities, expanding deep-draft berth capabilities, and integrating advanced automation and digital port operational systems. By transforming these key hubs into world-class mega terminals capable of accommodating ultra-large container vessels and massive bulk shipments, the initiative will significantly lower logistics overheads, boost transshipment efficiencies, and strengthen India’s strategic positioning across critical global trade corridors.
