Anti-Dumping Duties on Aluminium, Tea Export Diversification, Cotton Import Tariffs, and Odisha’s Massive Investment Approvals

Published

India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended extending anti-dumping duties for five years on Chinese flat-rolled aluminium and aluminium foil imports from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand to shield domestic producers from excess global production capacity. Simultaneously, the Commerce Ministry is exploring new tea export destinations like Oman as shipments to Iran face conflict-driven disruptions. In the textile sector, the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) urged the permanent removal of the 11% import duty on cotton to curb price volatility and level the playing field for Indian manufacturers. Capping the regional developments, Odisha’s High-Level Clearance Authority, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved 27 major industrial proposals worth ₹2.47 lakh crore. Spanning across 15 districts, these high-value projects cover mega AI data centres, semiconductor facilities, power plants, shipbuilding yards, and green energy infrastructure, creating over 50,000 potential jobs.
