India Expands Bilateral Trade Alliances and Sustainable Port Infrastructure

Published

India is actively strengthening its international trade position through a strategic Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, which promises duty-free access for major manufacturing sectors including textiles, leather, and automobiles. Concurrently, negotiations surrounding an India-US bilateral trade deal aim to shield domestic exporters from potential 100 percent tariffs threatened under recent US legislation targeting buyers of Russian energy. To capitalize on evolving trade channels, the Ministry of Textiles has launched a national initiative to identify up to 10,000 new exporters across 100 aspirational and 100 champion districts. This initiative seeks to transform local production centers into export hubs through infrastructure upgrades, capacity-building programs, and market facilitation centers. The textile sector currently contributes 2 percent to national GDP and 10 percent to industrial output while supporting over 45 million livelihoods. By fostering sustainable manufacturing practices and direct market linkages, India aims to significantly expand its footprint in the global textile trade landscape.
