India Strategic Global Trade Alliances and Agricultural Export Milestones

Published

India has achieved a historic milestone in agri-exports as APEDA facilitated the shipment of 1 metric tonne of popped makhana from Purnea in Bihar to Piraeus Port in Greece via Mundra Port. Sourced by Indo Global Export and shipped through SS Foods Exports, this consignment highlights the growing international market potential and better price realization for Bihar’s farmers, where makhana cultivation covers over 35,000 hectares. On the global trade front, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in the US, emphasizing that India has no structural excess manufacturing capacity and that domestic production primarily fulfills domestic and global needs. He firmly addressed trade-distorting subsidies and predatory pricing from certain nations while confirming India’s commitment to eliminating forced labor. Concurrently, Canada and India set an ambitious target to scale bilateral trade to $70 billion by 2030, with Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu announcing negotiations on a comprehensive trade agreement focusing on critical minerals, energy, LNG, and aerospace cooperation.
