The Union Cabinet has formally approved the creation of the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, establishing a single apex body to oversee long-term planning, technical evaluation, and post-implementation monitoring across India’s transport ecosystem. Designed to eliminate fragmented infrastructure development across individual ministries, ITLA will integrate representatives from railways, highways, ports, inland waterways, and civil aviation to support the growing logistics demand tied to national GDP growth. The new authority is tasked with reviewing short- and long-term sectoral plans against the National Transport Master Plan, updating the National Logistics Policy 2022, and conducting mandatory technical appraisals for all transport infrastructure projects valued above ₹500 crore. Furthermore, ITLA will establish a centralized national transport data repository by aggregating real-time data streams from GSTN e-way bills, FASTag, Vahan, GPS, and urban traffic networks, utilizing freight-flow and origin-destination analytics to drive evidence-based infrastructure investments and align with the nation’s Vision 2047 logistics goals.
