Major global container lines, including CMA CGM and A.P. Moller – Maersk, have announced fresh Peak Season Surcharges (PSS), Emergency Contingency Surcharges (ECS), and revised Freight All Kind (FAK) rate increases effective November 2026 to offset escalating operational costs, regional port congestion, and lingering geopolitical disruptions. CMA CGM will implement revised FAK rates from Asia to the Mediterranean and North Africa starting November 1, reaching up to $7,100 per 40-foot container for North African ports, alongside a new Peak Season Surcharge of $900 per 40-foot dry container on exports from South America bound for Europe, the Middle East, and the Red Sea taking effect November 15. Concurrently, Maersk is tripling its Emergency Contingency Surcharge from $500 to $1,500 per container for shipments moving from the Indian Subcontinent to South Africa and Indian Ocean Islands from November 1, while introducing a Durban Congestion Fee of up to $900 per 40-foot unit and a 24% temporary inland fuel surcharge on Canadian container drayage to cushion against localized operational bottlenecks.
