The 62nd National Maritime Day’s grand finale was held on April 5, 2025, at the GJEPC Bharat Ratnam – Mega Common Facilitation Centre, SEEPZ SEZ, Mumbai. The theme was “Samriddh Sagar – Viksit Bharat yevam Neel Arth aur Harit Vikas Ke Liye Yuva” (Prosperous Seas – Developed India and Youth for Blue Economy & Green Growth). The event commemorated the 1919 voyage of India’s first merchant ship, S.S. Loyalty, and brought together maritime leaders, seafarers, and their families.
Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted India’s maritime progress under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, focusing on initiatives to improve ease of doing business, multimodal connectivity, and infrastructure. Shri T.K. Ramachandran reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to sustainability, including reducing carbon emissions, controlling marine noise, and protecting biodiversity.
Shri Shyam Jagannathan emphasized India’s historical dominance in shipping and seaborne trade and congratulated the Sagar Samman Awardees. The event also celebrated the first National Maritime Games and the 75th anniversary of the Directorate General of Shipping.
