India’s maritime sector achieved a milestone on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, when the Adani Group’s Mundra Port welcomed the largest container ship ever to dock in India. The behemoth vessel, the MSC Anna, stretches nearly 400 meters in length, surpassing the previous record holder, the MV MSC Hamburg, by a single meter.
The arrival of the MSC Anna signifies not only the growing capacity of the Mundra Port but also India’s increasing role in global trade. The vessel’s expected exchange of 12,500 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) highlights the port’s ability to handle mega-ships and contribute to efficient cargo movement. This achievement sets the stage for further development of India’s port infrastructure and its potential to become a major player in international maritime trade.
