Apeejay Shipping Appoints New CEO: Sumant Ahlawat Takes the Helm

India’s prominent dry bulk shipping company, Apeejay Shipping, has appointed a new leader at the helm. Sumant Ahlawat has joined the Kolkata-based company as their Chief Executive Officer. Ahlawat brings a wealth of experience to the table, boasting a 30-year career in the maritime industry, with 14 years specifically focused on ship management.

Prior to joining Apeejay Shipping, Ahlawat held the position of Operations Director at V.Ships Asia, where he oversaw a diverse fleet of 45 vessels. His career also includes nearly five years leading the Indian division of AET, a Malaysian tanker company subsidiary of MISC.

Apeejay Shipping highlights Ahlawat’s expertise in fleet operations and dry dock management as key assets for the company. They expressed confidence that his “strategic vision” will propel Apeejay Shipping to new heights. The company owns a fleet of eight supramax and panamax bulkers, with a total value estimated at $102 million by VesselsValue (as of 2024). The age of these ships ranges from 2004 to 2012.
