In response to Turkey’s support for Pakistan during recent border tensions, Indian traders from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are calling for a boycott of Turkish imports, particularly apples and marble. Despite these sentiments, India’s exports to Turkey account for only 1.5% of its total exports, suggesting minimal impact on overall trade.
In FY25, India exported goods worth $3.2 billion to Turkey, a decline from the previous year. While sectors like engineering goods may see some disruption, overall trade volumes are expected to remain largely unaffected. Imports from Turkey, worth $2.84 billion, also constitute a mere 0.5% of India’s total imports.
An online “Boycott Turkey” campaign is gaining traction, amplifying calls to sever trade ties due to geopolitical concerns. However, the government has yet to make a formal decision on imposing trade restrictions.
