Changi Airport Takes Off: Air Cargo Operations Soar

Published

Changi Airport in Singapore is experiencing a remarkable rebound in its air cargo operations. After facing a decline due to the pandemic, the airport witnessed a significant surge in the first quarter of 2024.

Aircraft movements for air freight reached a total of 89,400, representing a robust 94% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019. This positive trend extends to cargo throughput, which saw a year-on-year increase of 14%, reaching 475,000 metric tons. This marks the first quarter of growth after seven consecutive quarters of decline.

North America is leading the charge in this air cargo resurgence, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by an impressive 25%. The Eastern DFC (Dedicated Freight Corridor) is fully operational, while the Western DFC is nearing completion, expected to further enhance Changi Airport’s cargo handling capabilities. This positive performance positions Changi Airport as a major player in the global air cargo industry once again.
