Dhamra Port Shifts to Green Power as India GCC Free Trade Talks Advance

Published

Adani’s Dhamra Port in Odisha has become India’s first large-scale private multi-cargo port to operate entirely on renewable electricity as part of its long-term Net-Zero strategy. The facility consumes over 90 lakh units of green power monthly, sourcing energy from a hybrid power plant in Gujarat, third-party access, and state green-power tariffs to power its 24/7 cargo and rail operations. In international diplomacy, India and the Gulf Cooperation Council have revived negotiations for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement to expand bilateral trade beyond the current $178 billion threshold. Discussions held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly focused on enhancing economic cooperation across agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, and digital technology. Building on existing bilateral trade agreements with the UAE and Oman, the broader FTA is designed to unlock investment opportunities and strengthen supply chain resilience between India and the Gulf region.
