Directorate General of Shipping Raises Maritime Security to Level 2

Published

In response to heightened Indo-Pak tensions, India’s Directorate General of Shipping has increased maritime security protocols to “MARSEC Level 2” across ports, terminals, and Indian-flagged vessels. This decision was made on May 8, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

The Level 2 security measure is based on the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security), which mandates escalated precautions in response to credible threats. This includes heightened surveillance, restricted access, and rigorous monitoring of port activities.

These measures aim to safeguard India’s maritime infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted operations despite regional geopolitical tensions.
