EIA report for Keni port in U-K dist ‘lost in translation’

Published

Local fishermen and environmental activists have questioned the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the proposed Keni port in the Uttara Kannada district. They claim that the Kannada translation of the English report is missing key information, including sections on the environmental impact and the number of people who would be affected.

The project, which is being developed by JSW at an estimated cost of ₹6,515 crore, has been met with opposition from locals. The fishermen believe that the project will harm their fishing grounds and marine species and have urged the district administration to re-translate the report and conduct a public hearing.
