EU Cracks Down on Corporate Abuses in Supply Chains

Published

The European Parliament has taken a significant step towards holding large corporations accountable for human rights and environmental violations within their global supply chains. This move comes after tragedies like the Rana Plaza garment factory collapse, which brought a harsh spotlight on unethical labor practices.

The proposed EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) aims to establish legal obligations for large corporations to conduct thorough assessments of human rights and environmental risks across their supply networks. This legislation would empower authorities to take action against companies failing to meet these standards.

Human rights groups and some businesses have applauded the EU Parliament’s vote. The new legislation is expected to force major corporations to take a more proactive approach to ensuring ethical practices throughout their supply chains, potentially leading to positive changes for workers and the environment on a global scale.
