Official data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry highlights a phenomenal transformation in India’s global trade footprint, with total annual exports of goods and services surging from $468 billion in 2014-15 to $863 billion in 2025-26. This long-term trajectory represents a robust annual growth rate of 5.7%, heavily anchored by a phenomenal 9% expansion in the services sector, which now comprises 48.8% of India’s total export value. Looking closely at sector-specific performance, agricultural and processed food exports registered an 8% year-on-year growth to reach $4.51 billion during April-May, bolstered by a 45% surge in buffalo meat shipments. However, certain traditional sectors like textiles experienced a 2% year-on-year contraction down to $35.80 billion, while high-volume baseline agricultural exports like basmati rice suffered brief logistical blockades in the Gulf, though the industry expects an immediate structural rebound following the signing of imminent Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
