Indian exporters are stepping up preparations for the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) ahead of mandatory financial payments starting in 2027, with the Commerce Department conducting nationwide awareness drives to assist iron, steel, and aluminum producers. In agriculture trade, India’s oilmeal exports grew 8.41% year-on-year in May 2026 to 3.73 lakh tonnes, primarily driven by a surge in rapeseed meal shipments to Asian destinations like China. However, cumulative oilmeal exports for April–May dropped 5.37% due to lingering Red Sea shipping disruptions, high freight costs, and stiff price competition from South American soybean meal. In Jammu & Kashmir, despite handicraft exports reaching ₹817.39 crore in FY26, local weavers and artisans continue to face severe financial strain due to rising input costs, stagnant wages, and heavy competition from cheap machine-made substitutes.
