Eyeing Maharashtra’s Vadhvan port, APSEZ

Published

Adani Port and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is studying the proposed ₹76,200 crore greenfield Vadhvan port project in Maharashtra. The company’s CEO, Ashwani Gupta, believes the project represents the “next level of the port in India” and is keen on participating in any opportunities along India’s coastline. The new port will have a total capacity of 24.5 million TEUs, with the first phase aiming to handle 6.85 million TEUs by 2030. A special purpose vehicle, Vadhvan Port Project Ltd, has been formed to implement the project.

Gupta highlighted the port’s importance in helping India reach its goal of 10 billion tonnes of capacity by 2047, stating that big projects like Vadhvan are necessary to achieve this target. He also mentioned that APSEZ plans to expand capacity at its existing ports to capitalize on the growing container cargo opportunities in India. The first phase of the Vadhvan port is expected to be completed by 2030, according to Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
