On infrastructure development, the VO Chidambaranar (VOC) Port Authority in Thoothukudi has finalized a massive ₹5,720-crore expansion project to deepen its harbour basin and approach channel to a 15.2-meter draught. This critical upgrade will eliminate dependence on nearby transshipment hubs like Colombo by directly accommodating large mainline Panamax vessels and ultra-large container ships up to 14,000 TEUs.
