Global Trade Partnerships: India Expands GCC, BRICS, and New Zealand Ties

Published

India is aggressively scaling its global economic footprint through multiple diplomatic and trade initiatives. In high-level talks, India and the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), representing India’s largest trading partner bloc with $178.56 billion in bilateral trade, reviewed ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations aimed at boosting bilateral investments and regional economic stability. Concurrently, global experts emphasized that trading in local currencies among BRICS nations could serve as a major game-changer for the Global South by mitigating currency volatility and trade friction. On the bilateral front, a report from Westpac Institutional Bank highlighted that the India-New Zealand FTA is expected to boost New Zealand’s GDP by 0.1% over the next decade, with 95% of its exports receiving tariff elimination while offering access to India’s rapidly growing $1.4$ billion consumer market.
