Government Focuses on Export Competitiveness as Indian Port Expansion Gains Momentum

Published

The Government of India is reshaping its export promotion strategy by giving state governments a larger role in driving exports while focusing on structural improvements such as logistics, certification, branding, and international market access instead of relying mainly on financial incentives. The strategy aligns with recommendations from the WTO to address infrastructure and trade-related bottlenecks that impact export growth. At the same time, India’s maritime sector continues to expand globally, with Adani Ports exploring the acquisition of Associated British Ports (ABP) in the UK. If completed, the deal would significantly strengthen Adani’s international port network and support its long-term vision of becoming one of the world’s largest transport infrastructure operators.
