Government Notifies EU Sugar Quota while FTAs Project 170 Billion Dollar GDP Boost for India by 2035

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) notified a quota allowing 5,841 tonnes of sugar to be exported to the European Union under the duty-concession Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) scheme for 2026–27, while extending the Minimum Import Price (MIP) on Glufosinate weedicide salts until April 12, 2027. On the regional maritime front, Andhra Pradesh ports handled 210 million tonnes of cargo in FY 2025–26, with Roads Minister B.C. Janardhana Reddy announced plans to convert Kakinada into a major multimodal logistics hub alongside 51 port and inland waterway projects valued at over ₹1 lakh crore. Under CETA, India and the UK agreed to exchange annual data on trade pact utilization starting one year after implementation to track tariff claims and assist small-and-medium businesses. Furthermore, a Bloomberg Economics study revealed that India’s expanding FTA network could add 140–170 billion to national GDP by 2035, effectively shielding Indian exports from prospective US tariff shocks and supply chain disruptions.
