India and Argentina Agricultural Research Pact

Published

India and Argentina have signed a comprehensive three-year work plan (2025-27) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector. The agreement, signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Argentina’s National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), focuses on joint research, technology exchange, and capacity building. The plan was formally exchanged following a summit between Prime Minister Modi and President Javier Milei.

The partnership covers a wide range of critical areas, including natural resource management, sustainable agronomy such as zero tillage, and digital agriculture. Both nations will collaborate on livestock improvement, animal biotechnology, and Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) elimination strategies. A significant part of the agreement involves germplasm exchange for various crops, including soybean, sunflower, maize, and several tropical fruits.

Further cooperation will extend to agricultural mechanization, value chain development, and the use of drones in farming. Planned study visits and training programs will cover post-harvest management, precision livestock farming, and waste-to-wealth technologies. Both sides have committed to annual monitoring and review mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of this scientific partnership.
