External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal urged BRICS member states to translate their growing economic weight into tangible business opportunities by eliminating non-tariff barriers, expanding digital public infrastructure, and promoting startup innovation. Reinforcing this momentum, Vladimir Padalko of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation stated that a 1,000-member Russian business delegation in New Delhi expects bilateral trade with India to surpass the $100 billion target well before 2030, supported by seamless local currency payment channels. Padalko confirmed Russia’s eagerness to diversify imports from India into pharmaceuticals, textiles, food products, and digital technology to rectify existing trade imbalances. Contrastingly, the ongoing geopolitical conflict in West Asia has severely impacted perishable commodity exports in South India. Exporters of fresh banana leaves from Tamil Nadu reported severe consignment reductions and shipping delays due to port closures in the Gulf region, threatening the shelf life of cold-stored produce despite recent technological preservation advancements introduced by ICAR-NRCB.
