India Exports Organic Palmyra Jaggery as EFTA Agreement Promises Massive Job Creation

Published

India’s agricultural export footprint expanded with the successful shipment of organic Palmyra jaggery powder from Tamil Nadu’s Erode district to Bulgaria. Derived from palm tree blossom nectar, this traditional sweetener offers high potential for value-added agro-exports across European markets. Concurrently, the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) completed its first year, with industry estimates forecasting the creation of up to two million direct jobs in India by 2040. Under TEPA, EFTA nations have offered tariff concessions covering 92.2% of tariff lines, benefiting key domestic sectors like pharmaceuticals, textiles, engineering goods, and chemicals. Furthermore, the deal solidifies a $100 billion investment commitment over 15 years, driving advancements in green hydrogen, clean technology, and manufacturing partnerships across Indian states.
